Principal's News
Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome to the end of Week 8, two weeks to go this term…can you believe it? We have had another huge couple of weeks celebrating Father’s Day as a community last week and ending this week with our Year 4 students receiving their First Eucharist this evening, congratulations to our Year 4 students.
Father’s Day
From all reports, last Friday’s turnout of our dads, granddads and Father figures was one of the biggest we have had. First, thank you to those who were able to turn up to celebrate with us. It would be remiss of me not to acknowledge our amazing PEC, Kate Benton and the amazing Mums who volunteered to set up on Thursday afternoon or turn up at 6am on Friday morning to cook and host the morning. I acknowledge how busy we all are and that it isn’t possible for us all to volunteer, but for those who went to work late or were able to take the morning off to help, THANKYOU! These events would not be able to go ahead without the support from our community.
We will always endeavour to give as much notice in advance for these events to encourage parents/carers to see if you can support in any way, I know that Kate is always accommodating, and we are all appreciative.
Spirituality Day (Pupil Free)
On Friday 3 November (Week 4, Term 4) our staff will be participating in our Staff Spirituality Day (Pupil Free) This will be off site so no staff will be at school. We will be reviewing the Catholic Schools Broken Bay Charter and addressing what this looks like in our school and parish communities as well as providing the opportunity for staff to embrace their own spirituality.
Foundation Principal Survey
On a personal note, I would like to thank and acknowledge everyone who was able to complete my Foundation Principal Survey. I truly feel blessed to lead our Tumbi community. Both the affirmations and suggestions from our community will help develop some clear goals for my own professional and personal development. We have an amazing team here at Tumbi, all working together in partnership with our parents and carers to provide the best education and environment we can for your children.
Long Service Leave
I will be on leave in Week 10. The school will be in the very capable hands of Stephen Lynch in my absence. I would like to take this opportunity to wish you a very happy and safe holiday break (for those who are able to have a break) Buckle yourselves in, Term 4…here we come!!
Kind Regards

Term 4 Calendar
Below in the upcoming events is the updated Term 4 calendar. All of these dates should also be on the Compass calendar. If there are any changes or updates we will let you know.
Afternoon Walkers
A quick reminder to families who are collecting their children from afternoon walkers to be mindful of where they are parking their cars. The drop off point on the corner of Hansen’s Road and Jacana Close has a parking strip on the grass in front of the green fence. However, those spots fill up very quickly. You are more than welcome to park your car on the other side of the road, but please be mindful not to park on the neighbour’s lawn. There has been reports of lawn damage and bins not being picked up. Thanks for your understanding with this.

First Holy Communion
We keep in our prayers and thoughts the students in Year 4 who are making their First Holy Communion today. May they be filled with the love of Jesus.
Peer Pals
Last Friday we started ‘Peer Pals’. The program fosters students’ wellbeing by nurturing peer relationships, empowering students to take on leadership roles, and enabling all students to learn and practice transferable life skills that will support their mental health and wellbeing now and into the future.
Here is what some of the Year 5 Peer Pal leaders thought of the first session:
“Being a Peer Pals Leader is challenging and exciting experience for everyone. In Peer Pals we learnt about Bucket Filling. We learnt what a Bucket Filler and Bucket Dipper is. Bucket Fillers say and do nice things like complement others, say nice words and have nice actions. Bucket Dippers are people who make nasty comments, say rude words and have bad actions. In order to lead the Peer Pals sessions, we have training beforehand so that we know what to do. It was lots of fun.”
By Jasper, Hazelle, Aria and Charlotte B in Year 5
Father’s Day
A huge thank you to everyone for helping with our Father’s Day celebrations. It was a wonderful way to celebrate the special men in our lives and we hope that the fatherly figures had a wonderful weekend.
Behavioural Expectations
As you are all aware, we focus on the explicit teaching of behaviours from Kindergarten to Year 6 in order for all students at SJF to learn how to:
“Make Good Choices to be Respectful, Responsible Citizens”
This fortnight we have been focusing on:
SJF a Safe and Happy Place when:
We Speak Respectfully
Here is a great website to help with this at home.
Grandparent’s Day
On the 27th October we will be celebrating our wonderful Grandparents and grandparent figures. We will have:
Open Classrooms from 9-9.20 am followed by a
Liturgy at 9.30 am and a
Morning tea at 10.20 am
We warmly welcome Grandparents to come along and enjoy their special day with us.

Learning Support Assistants Morning Tea
Learning Support Assistants
Yesterday we finally had a moment to celebrate our incredible LSA's with a thank you morning tea, in recognition of Australian Teacher Aide Appreciation Week.
Our LSA's Trish Dickson, Terrie Bradshaw, Ann-Maree Linnane, and Rhonda Fawkner work so hard to support our students and teachers in the classroom. They run reading support groups, maths support groups and support student well-being. Our LSA's write social stories, help students with emotional regulation, and help to improve student outcomes.
We truly don't know what we would do without them, and appreciate all that they do here at SJF!
Library News
NSW Premier’s Reading Challenge
The NSW Premier’s Reading Challenge is complete for 2023. Over 6400 books were read and entered by students at St John Fisher over the 6 month period, with 136 students completing the challenge, most for the first time. Thank you to all the families that assisted and encouraged their children to be involved. Modelling reading to children and fostering a love of stories is a very powerful way to improve student learning. Hopefully, there will be many more next year.
Congratulations to some last minute completors: Bluebell N, Lachlan C, Mason G and Olivia L.
Indigenous Literacy Foundation
Thank you also to the families who made a gold coin donation in Book Week. With your help we will be able to donate $135 to the Indigenous Literacy Foundation, so that more children will have the opportunity to learn and love reading too.
