Principal's News
Dear Parents and Carers,
I hope that you have managed to keep cool over the last week, it certainly has been very different to this time last year!
Compass Kiosk (signing students in/out)
Just a friendly reminder about the signing students in and out procedures. If you are dropping students off once the gates are locked or picking them up before the end of the day, please come into the office and on the left hand side you will see the Compass Kiosk. Please sign children in and out using the Kiosk. Admin staff are here to guide you if you require help. In the morning if late, the students can then make their way to class (again, we are here to support if needed) It’s important that we adhere to this procedure so we can ensure that your child has been correctly marked as Present.
New School Phone System and Number (Reminder)
Our school’s phone system is being upgraded. Our school phone number will change to
7256 2102. We will be running this in parallel with our current phone system for another week or so. If you receive a call from this number, you now know that it is from St John Fisher. Once the rollout is complete, calls to our old number will be redirected to the new number for a short while. Please save this new number as the school contact. We will also update this information on all school communication channels over the next 2 weeks. We appreciate your support as we transition to a modern cloud-based phone system.
School Cross Country
Cross Country last Friday was another huge success. The weather was kind (albeit a little warm) and there were plenty of smiles despite the "pain"! A special thanks to Mr Pobjie for his planning and organisation and the Year 6 teachers and our Year 6 students for organising and running the activities.
Goal Setting Meetings
The staff have really enjoyed these conversations with parents. This is an important process as we work together in partnership to create the best learning opportunities we can for our students.
St John Fisher Open Day/Evening for Enrolment
Next Thursday 16th March we welcome prospective and current families to St John Fisher. We will be running two sessions, one at 9:30am and one at 6:00pm. These sessions will include information as well as a tour of the school. Year 6 will play an active role in the morning session as welcomers, leading prayer and leading the school tour.
Sibling Enrolments
Just a reminder that if you have a sibling wishing to be enrolled at SJF in 2024 to please complete the form below. This gives us a good indication of numbers and by completing the form, we will send the enrolment package home to you.
Parent Helpers
I have been ducking in and out of classes over the last few weeks watching the fabulous learning that is taking place. Classes are settled and engaged in all sorts of fabulous activities and there are always children who are keen to share their skills and achievements with me. To support student learning, we are looking for parent helpers to come into class to assist with activities. We also love and rely on parent helpers to assist with carnivals and excursions etc.
Prior to helping in or out of the classroom, we require parents to undertake a Safeguarding Presentation covering legal requirements such as confidentiality. We are therefore running two parent workshops, that will cover all of this and enable parents to start helping in class or during sports days. If you are interested in being a helper, please attend one of the following sessions:
Tuesday 21st March 9am or 5.30pm
If required, we will run another session.
Parent Round Table Discussion
We are looking foward to hearing from you during our Round Table Discussion evening on Wednesday 15th March at 6pm . This will be your opportunity to voice your ideas and aspirations for our school. We hope the evening will provide a space to discuss and collaborate openly and honestly.
Please click the link below to RSVP.
https://forms.office.com/r/DQjxnszAk2
I will be taking a few days family leave from Friday 10th until Tuesday 14th and will be back bright eyed and bushy tailed for our round table discussions on Wednesday evening and Open Day on Thursday.
Kind Regards
Marcel Arendse

Attendance
At St John Fisher, your child’s health, safety, wellbeing and education is at the forefront of everything we do. To support these factors, we will place some reminders in the newsletter and on Compass from time to time regarding the importance of attendance.
The 'Learning Every Day Counts' initiative aims to improve student attendance at school through a shared commitment by students, families, schools and the community. The 'Learning Every Day Counts' initiative promotes four key messages:
All children of compulsory school age (6-17 years) should be enrolled at school and attend every school day
- Schools should promote, monitor, communicate and implement strategies to improve and maintain regular school attendance
- Missing days of school impacts on a students’ learning, wellbeing and future employment and life choices
- Supporting good attendance at school is the responsibility of everyone in the school community
The flyer below highlights some of the key factors and supports to help schools and families with attendance.

Lenten Prayer
Loving and gracious God.
Here I am, asking for the water of Your lifegiving
presence to fill me up.
Holy Spirit, renew me and refresh me.
Where I feel stuck in parched and
monotonous patterns, send new life and
new possibilities. Come, Holy Spirit, into all
the areas of my life that need reawakening
or re-energising.
As I reflect on Your word today, may Your
Holy Spirit reveal to me the saving power of
the life, death and resurrection with Him
be renewed; my trust in Him deepened;
and my joy increased. Amen

Jesus Our Light and Our Life, Becoming One in Christ 2023 Lenten Program Diocese of Broken Bay
Lent
During this time of Lent, we ask that you reflect on ways that you can not only become closer to God but also reach out and support those less fortunate than ourselves. You can do this in many ways, it might be by giving money to the poor, sharing a meal with someone, or as simple as forgiving someone who has wronged you. We never know what others are feeling, and so this Lent take the time to walk in Jesus’ footsteps and become more like him.
Project Compassion
Last year SJF had a massive fundraising campaign that saw us raise over $1000 for Project Compassion. This year this project is still extremely important to us as we see the work that Project Compassion does as invaluable.
Vision
Justice, dignity and hope for humanity and all of God’s creation.
Mission
The Caritas Australia mission is to work in partnership with communities in Australia and overseas to achieve their development goals and thrive, keeping in the spirit of the Gospel.
Values
Caritas Values are at the heart of everything we do. They're what keep us accountable and on the right track to a better world where all people can live out their full potential.
Project Compassion boxes have been sent home to each family and we ask that, as a family you raise money by doing jobs or chores. Money will be collected and counted by our Mission Leaders and the totalled at the end of Lent.
Harmony Day to Support a Local Charity
To celebrate Harmony Day on Tuesday 21st March, students can wear orange mufti or wear orange accessories and bring in a gold coin donation (or more if they would like). We will start the day at 9.15 am with a liturgy run by our talented Mission Team, and then students will do different activities in class highlighting the importance of acceptance, diversity and unity.
This year it is also an aim of ours to support a charity locally. Therefore, we are partnering with the parish by donating money raised to ‘We Care Connect'. Which is a local charity who support children in our community that need help. 'We Care Connect' is a grass-roots local charity powered by volunteers helping kids in poverty.
As you’d all agree this is a very worthwhile charity, especially as it is local. See website for more information.
Opening School Mass
On Monday 27th February, we celebrated our Whole School Opening School Mass with parents, parishioners, and families. It was a wonderful celebration where we welcomed the newest members of SJF, the Kindergartens and acknowledged the Year 6 students who, after saying their Year 6 Pledge affirming their commitment to their roles as leaders, were then presented with their leadership badges.

Congratulations to our Year 6 Leaders for 2023, it is wonderful to see you all step up and share your skills and talents with the school.
Prayer and Faith Formation
To support our commitment to the faith formation of every student in our school, each class was also presented with a prayer box, so that teachers can create sacred spaces within each classroom to pray and reflect around. This initiative was very kindly supported by Christine Greentree who generously gave her time to sew prayer clothes.
Diocesan Mass
On Thursday night, a few of us went down to Waitara where we were lucky enough to gather for Mass which was celebrated by Bishop Anthony and many priests from around our Diocese. It was a wonderful way to mark the start of another school year and acknowledge those who are new to the role of educator in our system, new to a leadership role within our system or have been a teacher for many years.
During the celebrations we congratulated Mrs Samantha French who marks her 25th year this year as a catholic school teacher.
St Patrick’s Day Liturgy
On Friday 17th March Year 6 will be leading the liturgy to celebrate the life of St Patrick. As it is also assembly day, we will take bags to class and return to the hall for the liturgy at 9am and then follow with our assembly where we will be presenting the Growing in Faith and Knowledge Awards and the medals for Cross Country.

Congratulations! A great effort from all the boys and girls who ran in the hot conditions. Well done everyone.
Just a big thank you to the parents that volunteered to help on the day. Events like this cannot happen without people like you, so thank you again.
Also, I would like to thank the staff for the help and assistance on the day and a big thank you to Mr Perkins and Mrs Amor and all the Year Six students who organised the fun activities to make the day a big success. Thanks guys, a great job well done.
CCC Cross Country
Students who finished in the top 6 at our school Cross Country will be going through to the CCC Cross Country. I don't have all the details as yet that's the reason no notes have been given out, but I do know it is on Friday 5th May Term 2 week 2 and will be held at The Central Coast Regional Sports Centre Tuggerah. Once I have conformation of all the details of the day it will be put on Compass. Thank you for your patience.
